Love or Hate? Michelle Obama’s Narciso Rodriguez Dress
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 13:10Posted in category Uncategorized

I’m delighted that Barack Obama is now the President-Elect but all I could think while watching him celebrate with his family was, “What is Michelle wearing? That dress is terrible!” It turned out I wasn’t alone. Many of my friends were distracted by her Narciso Rodriguez dress from the Spring 2009 collection. Others compared her to a black widow spider, not the most flattering thing considering the circumstances!
How about you? Do you love or hate her dress? Do you prefer it on the runway? Let me know in the comments!

I like how the whole family coordinated their look - theme (black/navy and red) and Barak Obama’s look (navy/red/white) is so patriotic hehehehe stripped tie and navy suit!! Nice (American flag :-P) but I thought the Dem. color was blue
See… what we’re used to is seeing the first ladies dressed in more classical rather than modern attire/dresses on the BIG day! Her dress did make her look wide.. and I think she should’ve gone more Jackie-O… lets wait and see what she wears in Jan
And black widow?? LOL shes coming out to suck the American blood
*kidding lol*
Her dressed is modified… isnt it? Look at your runway picture!! But to me its not flattering nor hideous! I did not HATE it but did not LOVE it either. It was just a lil dull but still better than Hilary Clinton’s orange suit (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/photos/uncategorized/2008/08/28/hillary_k68o1vnc_300×500.jpg)….. at least the Obamas went for the unified look
Nice “Politics of Fashion” post you got here

I like the fact that she made an effort to be trendy even though it wasnt figure flattering and I loved how the whole family was color coordinated. Very cute. I think her taste and style will eventually refine itself and she will turn into a very sophisticated first lady…

I love the dress and detailing I’m not to keen about the jacket as a cardingan took away from the beautiful detailing.
If a blazer or even a sheer shirt under would have Bern nicer
It’s a great dress and it shows she had taste !!

I agree…
What was she thinking her body wasn’t made for this dress and it was really clear.

I agree with Ansam and Brown Booteek - the entire effect of the coordinated first family was one that was really eye catching and picture perfect.
That dress is certainly something I would entertain wearing - it slims the waist and adds curves with color. It is both chic and bold at the same time, fusing the motifs of power and professionalism.

It doesn’t suit her! And it looked even worse with the shadows used to censor in newspapers!

I loved the dress- its elegant and does a great trompe-l’oeil- gives her curves and hides the funky parts..I’m not crazy about the cardigan- I’m sure they could have altered the dress so the first lady could have some sleeves instead of the eekkh cardigan..but I liked it alot- dont think she looks like any lethal or deadly insect..
maa arthaaa 3ala 3yal obaaamaa!!

I thought it was beautiful, the only thing that took away from it was the black cardigan over it but you can’t expect her to show up at an event like that wearing just the dress. She’s a mama and the soon to be First Lady, she has to play the part!
Honestly, its a goregous dress and looks good on her. Give the future First Lady props!

I do not like the dress. But it looks nice on her. It reflects her personality. she might want people to know how simple person she is, even if she is the First Lady. Who knows! However, Choosing the black and red colors might have some meanings such as blood and slavery etc.
Her husband wins anyway:P
