Olivia Harris Electric Blue Satchel

I’ve mentioned in several posts now that I’m on the search for a red bag instead of the usual black and blue handbags I have in my wardrobe. Can you guess what I wound up buying over the weekend?

It’s an electric blue Olivia Harris East West Patch Satchel with black highlights.

This is the third bag that I’ve bought this year that comes with an optional shoulder strap. I find them perfect for local outings and travel.

I can’t help being drawn to shades of blue and black. What colors fill up your closet? Have you noticed that a certain color dominates your wardrobe and shopping choices?

Interview: KooKoo’s Golly Sayfi

With a background in interior design, Golly Sayfi’s passion lied solely in fashion. Her family has been in the fashion business for over 15 years. She spent her childhood on trips to trade shows sifting through what was in each season. It was a natural move for her to launch her own label, “KooKoo”, a nickname she’s had since childhood.

You were raised in Dubai all your life, where are you originally from and how has your background inspired your creations?

For me, Dubai is home rather than Iran. And a lot of my close families live here with us too. I actually feel my Iranian background and the Emarati one are quite similar in my opinion. But my inspiration is not so much my own background, it comes more from the Middle Eastern roots and culture. This part of the region where we live, is more about how much you can stand out compared to the person next to you. So elements like bold colorful colors, patterns and mixing fabrics and textures with one another are behind my creations.

What designers do you admire?

John Galliano, Vivienne Westwood, Yamamoto Yohji, Manish Arora and Karl Lagerfeld to name a few.

What’s your design philosophy?

There is no right way or wrong way to design. Your design methods and creative pieces may relate to some and not to others. Every individual has there own style, just let the outfit you wear communicate to the world, the person you really are. And always keep in mind that life is too short, to have a bad outfit on.

If you’re in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Lebanon, you can find the KooKoo line at the following stores:

* SAUCE
* Bauhaus
* Boom and Mellow - Emirates Mall
* Tigerlily - Wafi
* Amazaan - Wafi
* 50 Degrees - Souq Al Bahar
* CREAM - Lebanon

KooKoo ships via Aramex for a cost between KD10-30 depending on the shipment weight. You can also order her items through Fashion on Wheels on Facebook.

Christian Louboutin for Rodarte Killer Shoes

In the space of a week, both Victoria Beckham and Janet Jackson were spotted out and about in their Christian Louboutin for Rodarte killer heels. The fashion world has been abuzz ever since they first showed in Spring ‘08.

The spikes and the studs convey an edgy rocker vibe.Both Victoria and Janet wore understated outfits, letting the shoes do the talking for them. It’s interesting that they both wore their hair up in a punk style. Who do you think wore them best? Did either one of them manage to pull off the look?

If you think you recognize these shoes from somewhere, you probably remember the other pair that graced Vogue in May. D&G’s vision of Catwoman wears them well, perhaps better than either Janet or Victoria!
