“Style is knowing who you are, what you want to say, and not giving a damn.” -Gore Vidal

The Burqini

Australian brand, Ahiida offers a range of women’s swimwear and sportswear that caters to women who wear the hijab. It offers solutions for clothing for sports and swimming activities. The burqini is one of the items they provide.

What is a burqini?

It is Ahiida’s solution to what a woman with a hijab would wear when swimming.

Ahiida is the creation of Aheda Zanettie. Her background is originally Lebanese but her family migrated to Australia when she was a very young age.

Maybe that explains why the disjointed Arabic script on the website doesn’t actually form a word.

What do you think of the burqini? I’ve included an image for you to see it.

If you wear the hijab, would you buy and wear a burqini? Let me know in the comments!

My colleague bought a similar suit from one of the ma3areth here in Kuwait. The whole suit along with a matching towel and a beach bag cost about 45 KD. They are cheaper and more colorful than the Ahiida ones.

You can find similar swimsuits in sport shops in kuwait in diffrent colors and styles. Actually, it’s not that bad. I do wear this to the beach. it’s light and comfortable, beats wearing darra3a or clingy cotton shirt n pants.

I saw similar swimsuits launched by a Turkish designer last year and the’re far more beautiful and attractive than the Ahiida one. The pic above doesn’t look like a swimsuit :(

I think its a nice option for those who do wear hijab and want to swim in public with their brothers, male friends and cousins. Personally I dont wear hijab, and when I do go to the beach I wear my one piece. The fun of the beach is to feel the wind in your hair and the sand on your skin - you cant do that in that swimsuit. I have a question: You guys mention “private beaches”. Whats that? like a women’s only beach? really?

I would wear something like this IF I could afford it and if it came with an open abaya to wear over it out of the water.
I can’t afford such things though so I don’t go to the beach.

I bought this swimsuit and couldnt stand it. The designs are very unflatering. I bought a swimsuit from Dubai called mycozzie. Its fantastic and the head piece is optional. You can buy them from GoSports or their website www.mycozzie.com
Ladies I’m sure you will love the designs..

    Asalaamuwalaikum
If we are muslimaha’s then we know that the head peice is not *optional*. Al Quran clearly states that we are to cover every part of our bodies except that which is necessary. It is never necessary to leave our heads uncovered. Private beaches are great but I don’t have access to them. I haven’t gone swimming in years because I don’t have an islamic swim suit. Insha Allah things will change in that area as I love to play in the water.
I personally don’t care if the design is flattering as long as it covers me in an islamic manner. I am a big woman myself and couldn’t wear any of these suits as they don’t cover adequetly. It seems to me , I hope I am wrong, that you would have to be a twig to wear these and have the shape of your body not obvious.
Insha Allah I have not offended anyone. It is not my intent to do so. Please forgive me if I have.
