Truth or Dare?

Tucked away in the upper floor of Beit el Mazar is a little boutique, named Truth or Dare. It houses a treasure trove of riches of everything a girl could possibly want!

Guys, listen up because Truth or Dare also caters to guys! That’s right! For starters, they sell Abercrombie & Fitch shirts and shorts for men.

You can find nearly anything in this cozy boutique. They have cute accessories, from watches to jewellry. They also have t-shirts, dresses, jeans, shoes, and their specialty customized t-shirts and jeans. Truth or Dare has something for everyone!

If you’re interested in knowing brand names, let’s name drop a few: 7 for all Mankind, Citizens of Humanity, Rock & Republic, Juicy Couture, Save the Queen, Abercrombie and Fitch, People for Peace. There are plenty of unknown brands in the store and also many lovely customized tops and dresses by the store owner herself. Those customized items are worth far more in my eyes than any brand I’ve mentioned. The creativity expressed in her designs are wonderfully embroidered and carefully done.

Truth or Dare may be relatively new but it is the latest IT destination for boutique shopping. On June 15th, the store owner, Kooka, launched a blog to market her boutique at Truth or Dare: The Fashionable Hub in K-Town!!! And a mere 10 days later, a Truth or Dare contest was started right here on Kuwait-Style.com!

I asked Kooka what inspired her to start her store and this is her reply, in her own words:

My passion for custom-made clothing grew because of my hard to please taste & rejection of mass production in fashion business. Everywhere I go, I always dig the original, unique & unusual.

Back in 2002, I started the journey of my exhibitions for hand-painted clothing line: dresses, shirts, jeans & more. I handpaint on the pieces upon customer’s request. People loved the idea as they realized that each customer was being exclusively treated.

I also created my own designs of funky tops & dresses that cater to females who always look for something special - outside the typical shopping spots ;)

Then by the end of 2006, I heared that there was a “TO LET” space in Beit el Mazar. That’s how I got the chance to start my firm business in women’s urban wear. My store opened on Valentine’s Day 2007 =)

I took a while just to come up with a name for my store that has a unique feel to it. “Truth or Dare” , I called it! My concept is to promote various looks for the different personalities of my clientele. Just like in the game: you either choose to confess, or accept a dare! There is never a simple way of playing the fashion game; you either play it deadly cool - or simply go wild!

My love for jeans started my idea to open a store specifically catering people like me; people who crave to stand out of the “cookie-cutter” crowd. Couture jeans are all the rage today for women who want to look dashing in denim, so I offer a host of designer brands to slip into such as Rock & Republic, Victoria Beckham for R&R, Citizens of Humanity, Just Cavalli, True Religion, Antik Denim, 7 for all mankind, Sass & Bide, Frankie B. and more! I also have Juicy Couture sets, dresses & t-shirts. A small Save the Queen collection has a space on my store racks too.

Lack of imagination in Kuwait’s market urged me to go for something a bit different. So, just recently, I launched my “Hearty Tees” line: a collection of t-shirts, polo shirts & t-shirt dresses that has (I Heart…) messages stitched/embroidered on them:

*I heart Muchboos Deyay
*I heart 7adaag
*I heart Gahwa
*I heart Diwaniya
*I dread Rejeem
*I dread Dawaam
*I heart Bnaider
*Sushi Lover From Kuwait
*…. & more!

You can see more of her customized lines below.

I love the store! I want to shop now! How Do I Get To Truth or Dare?

Truth or Dare’s opening hours are from 10AM-2PM and 5PM-9PM. Follow this map to get to the store. It’s located behind the Church and Casper & Gambini’s in Beit el Mazar on the first floor.

Once you find Beit el Mazar pass through the open door and walk up the stairs.

At the top of the stairs you will assume you reached a dead end. You will see make up in front of you. Don’t worry, that is only Madly Yours. Step through the door and take a left.

Then take a left again and you will see this wonderful sight. It’s Truth or Dare and Nano Sacchetto!

Happy Shopping!

Marina Mall Map

After my successful attempt of getting a map from The Avenues, I decided to try my luck at Marina Mall. The last time I was there they were unhelpful claiming a map didn’t exist. This time was different! They gave me a mall directory! Unlike The Avenues, I didn’t like a single thing about this map.

The map labelled only 7 destinations, “The One“, “Vavavoom“, “H&M“, “Zara“, “Virgin“, “Cinema” and “Game Wizzz“.

Please take a look at the map and tell me if you could find your way if you were lost in Marina Mall.

Please let me know in the comments what you think of the map and if you think I should still create my own map for the upcoming Guide to Marina Mall!

The Avenues Map Uncovered

After the successful reception of The Complete Guide to The Avenues, I decided I would follow up with more guides to shopping malls. I wrote about Soug Sharq but didn’t include a map as the mall is very easy to navigate. Several readers did bring to my attention that a map of The Avenues does exist. I was surprised since the information desk did not provide one to me when I asked for one and the same for my friends.

I went back there yesterday and requested a map at the information desk. The man asked, “Why do you need a map?” What kind of question is that? After explaining to him that I get lost in The Avenues (not true anymore because I have my map), he handed me the Mall Directory.

Have you seen the Avenues Map that they hand out at Information? It’s very pretty, unlike my map that I put together haha! I’ve scanned it so that you can take a look at it if you haven’t seen it already.

What I like:

  • They list the stores both in Arabic and English.
  • They also have the map and the store names color coded to match.

What I didn’t like:

  • Stores were listed by number. In order to find the number you had to hunt below the map under different categories such as “Cosmetics/Perfumes“, “Fashion - Women” - “Jewellery/Watches” for the name of the store.

That meant if I was lost in The Avenues first I would have to find the store I was standing next to, locate its number on the map, then hunt below again for the name of the store I want to go to, and then try to locate the corresponding number on the map again.

Thank you for the pretty map but I think I will stick to my ground floor and first floor maps!

Site Update

I am going to be updating the site in the next few days. Expect new tabs and objects in the sidebars. If you’re facing problems viewing the page please let me know so that I can fix it!

What I’ve done so far:

  • Created a CONTESTS page to keep all of you updated on what contests Kuwait-Style.com is currently running. It’s located next to the About and Links page on the upper left hand corner within the image header.
  • Nominated my blog for the Blogger’s Choice Awards for the Best Shopping Blog category. There are many great blogs included that I’m sure you will love, you have to check them out! I’ve included a badge on the sidebar on the right. Please vote for me!
