Inspired by Zuhair Murad

Over the past month I’ve had a number of emails asking me about the header on this website. A couple of people assumed that they were the designs of a Kuwaiti designer. I wish it were so, but sadly that’s false. The image header are compiled photographs of Zuhair Murad’s Spring/Summer 2007 Haute Couture collection.

Zuhair Murad is a Lebanese designer and relatively new on the fashion scene. He first gained recognition in early 2000, winning numerous fashion and design awards. He designs haute couture and ready-to-wear gowns and outfits. When I saw his Spring/Summer 2007 collection I fell in love with the rich tones and feminine silhouettes. Most recently his designs were seen gracing the red carpets of Cannes in May 2007.

I’ve included more of his Spring/Summer 2007 Haute Couture collection below. I love floral prints when they’re done right. What do you think of the images I’ve chosen? They don’t represent the pieces I loved most, those you can see in the header, but I liked these as well.

Some of you may recognize Zuhair Murad’s name from his Limited Edition line at Mango. He’s been collaborating with them for a while now but unfortunately I have disliked every piece that was shown in Mango. Let me rephrase that. I have liked a couple of pieces last year, but when I tried on the clothes they felt and looked unfinished. As a collection that is targetted to women willing to pay for higher quality of clothing I feel his line falls short.

Of this season’s collection, I feel that the clothes are too frilly in shades of pastel colors that overwhelm. Of course that’s only my opinion. I’ve seen people purchase the clothes so he must be catering to those whose tastes differ than mine. If you haven’t viewed the Limited Edition, you can spot a couple of pieces in my post on Mango’s Summer Collection for 2007. I’ve also included below images of his collection as displayed in Mango.

You can find Zuhair Murad boutiques and points of sales by visiting his website. His gowns are available in Kuwait at Al-Fatina in Zahra Complex. You may remember the store from my post of Window Shopping in Kuwait. Also as mentioned previously, he has Limited Edition lines at Mango stores. You can learn more about Zuhair Murad by visiting his website.

OK so I agree with you that I love his designs… I just rarely buy floral haute coutures! I am not that much into floral prints. Most of my dresses are plain or with designs, beads, sequin….. some few pieces with floral prints but not so many, not my favorite!

Great post, and me too.. I dont like his Mango collection!

I agree, his Mango collection is a far cry from the ones shown in the runway. Too bad.

    pearls I agree :)

Ansam I think the problem with floral prints is that they can look dated after some time which makes it better to stick with classic styles. Why do you think his Mango collection is unappealing to us? After all, he is trying to cater to our region. Do you know anyone who’s bought a piece from it?

Mackay sadly, yes. I just cannot stand the colors chosen!

I didn’t know Mango was selling Zuhair Murad stuff. I don’t like Mango so I don’t even walk in there.

I was impressed by Zuhair Murad’s style this year. I never like his style before since I thought his dresses were too “crowded” (m3ajja2). One of my favorite dresses this year is the first dress you have after the post. I loved the back of it as well. He also has one wedding dress in his collection which style I liked.. the renaissance fairy tale style. There is a bit too much going on there for my taste, but I like the style of it at least.

rampurple welcome to the site :) Thanks for leaving a comment! I have liked Zuhair Murad’s collections in the past but you’re right, they were a little on the fussy side. Like you, this is my favorite collection of his to date. I don’t recommend you check out his collection at Mango as it will not be to your taste ;)

I have always dreamed the most amazing dresses in special textures….and now i find them already perfectly done:by Zuhair Murad. The line of the dress, the texture of the material, perfected by the amazing small details like a flower, belt, leaf on the shoulder….things like that make me,the perfect dress dreamer, extatic.
