Store Opening: Banana Republic Kuwait in The Avenues Mall
Published May 27th, 2007I wrote about the GAP opening a couple of days ago and now we have the Banana Republic opening. It is the beginning of the US takeover (or is it?) at The Avenues Mall. The remaining US-based stores left to open are Rampage and Forever21.

Browsing at Banana Republic, I didn’t find the one piece I wanted most on my Top 5 from Banana Republic list which was the cotton matador top. I didn’t want the silver shoes anymore because I bought the silver Stella McCartney Adidas shoes.
I usually shop at Banana Republic for work clothes and they had a good selection of that. I am hoping they will bring more of the merchandise I saw online. There was a lot of knitwear which is too warm to be worn in Kuwait, this time of year. They had cute cardigan sweaters like the ones that sold out at the GAP. I’m predicting these will sell out fast since they are must-have pieces for every woman’s closet! The cardigans were more pricey than the ones available at GAP but Banana Republic has always been more expensive. I wonder if that factor combined with the store’s location will be harmful in the long run. It’s located on the top floor of The Avenues Mall in a corner and if you weren’t shopping upstairs it might be easy to overlook the store. Also the store’s located right across from mega-savings H&M. I hope the store does well because BR is one of my favorite brands.
Really, the only thing that caught my eye at the store were the shoes. I didn’t have time to make a purchase. There were a lot of people in the store and not enough people to help get my shoe size but I’m planning on going back soon. Their shoes are really cute and affordable. Most of the women I saw in the store were in the shoe & handbag section and ignoring the clothes.
Have you been to Banana Republic yet? What do you think of it so far? Let me know in the comments.

happy anniversary !!
I haven’t been there yet ..
Good luck and keep up the good work!!
I like the BR, their clothes are comfortable and of a high quality
I just think they have cuter stuff for men than women! J-Crew have some similar stuff and more colors.
I am planning to shop there once the crowd become less.
BR approaches a more sophisticated upperclass image for an upscale customer. GAP, on the other hand, is targeted to a wider range of customers.
By the way.. they are all part of the Gap Inc. Brands…. See the list below:

I have a question that’s been nagging me for sometime and I know it’s not my business, but here goes, do you always go shopping alone or do you prefer going with a friend?
I’m passing there tonight and so looking forward to it.
Baboona Store thank you dear for your kindness to me
Let me know what you think when you do visit the store. I value your feedback.
Ansam I am not a big fan of J.Crew. Their clothes are usually too preppy for me but every once in a while I find something that suits my style. Thank you for the list. I should’ve clarified that in my post. From most expensive to least expensive: BR, GAP, Old Navy. Do you think Old Navy will reach our shores?
pearls haha! Don’t worry all questions are good in my book because it means you are interested and I value the interaction. I always go shopping with a friend or two because I like having second opinions. In the instances that my friends are busy I do go alone but I don’t buy much on those days. Opinions matter to me, that’s why you see me always asking questions on this blog about what you think. Don’t be afraid to ask more questions
Please let me know what you think of the store when you go tonight.
Yeah.. I think Old Navy is on its way. Heehee yalla the more the merrier
I’ll probably wait until the za7ma goes away before going
I finally found time to stop there this weekend. I love BR and can never leave the store without buying an item while in store. I loved the store. I felt as if I was shopping in the states. Few items were new collection, some items were stuff that I’ve seen months ago in the US. Some stuff were over proced. I saw a dress that was going for 150$ in the US being sold for 80 KD, this is almost double the price.
Ansam no no no! I actually would love to have Abercrombie & Fitch just for their jeans. Could you imagine their catalogs making their way into Kuwait? Haha!
EniGma don’t wait too long
shopa thanks for commenting
I love the interiors of most of the stores in The Avenues mall. They really put an effort in design. I didn’t check on their prices. I’ll be sure to research them before buying anything from there. It would be a shame to pay double the price! I really appreciate your feedback.
it was ok but I hated gap the most
I WANNA ASK ABOUT THE WHITE COMPANY, IS THERE A BRANCH IN THE AVENUE MALL
hi, could we have a list of allllllllllllllllllllllll the shops in avenues..appreciate your help chickas and amigos
