Store Opening: “New Look” in Kuwait

New Look is opening in The Avenues Mall soon. I’m sure you’ve all heard it on the radio and seen the print ads. They haven’t specified the date of the opening but we have some clues. The Lily Allen collection “Lily Loves” is set to debut on May 9th at New Look so that should make for an interesting store opening, don’t you think?

Lily Allen is a British pop star whose hit songs “Smile” and “LDN” graced the top of the charts in the UK. Her collection includes dresses, shoes and accessories. It’s interesting to note that her fashion line is going to come out around the same time as Kate Moss’ collection for Topshop (May 1st). I wonder which collection will be more popular in Kuwait.

Update: New Look has already opened at The Avenues.

Hot Accessory: Seahorse Necklace from Topshop

Work kept me late today and I couldn’t make it to the exhibition I posted about yesterday. I will find out tomorrow from my friend what she thought of it. If there’s anyone that has gone to it, I’d appreciate your thoughts about it as well! It’s a shame I missed it because I do love checking out what fashions people cook up. This country is such an interesting melting pot.

I still managed to fit in a bit of shopping during my day. Somehow I made my way to Topshop and I saw this amazing seahorse necklace in silver and gold (KD6.500). It had an extra long chain and really cute details. I opted to buy the gold one. Check out the pictures of it below. Its gold color matched my dresser!

I’ve noticed that I usually buy gold accessories in the summer and only get silver during the (brief) winter months. Does anyone else do this or is it just me?

The seahorse isn’t as versatile as the butterfly craze that keeps returning season after season so my thoughts are that the seahorse is just going to last for the summer along with the nautical theme.

If you want more seahorses you can check out this seahorse pendant which can be found at Oasis (10Pounds).

This gold plated seahorse Calypso necklace sells for $95.

Do you think seahorses are the new butterflies? Let me know what you think and/or if you have a seahorse accessory in the comments below. Thanks!

Fashion Exhibition

It’s pretty late notice but my friend sent me the following SMS:

Lilium Summer ‘07 Collection..dressing is made easy with Lilium’s designs. Featuring stylish tops & dresses in light fabrics & soft colors. Float your way through summer with Lilium @ Bait Badra on 28-29 April from 10-1 & 5:30-9.

Tomorrow’s the last day! I will definitely be going. I love seeing all the diverse tastes at local exhibitions and encourage budding Kuwaiti designers.

A Morning at Sharq Mall

This morning I had to make a quick stop at Sultan Center. Anytime I go to Sharq I have to check out my favorite store, Kookai. They didn’t have anything new for me and so I walked around and went into several of the other stores.

One thing that caught my eye is the extra large handbags on sale. I saw several in Mango & Zara. They sell for around KD30 which isn’t bad considering how HUGE they are. My favorite was a white Bottega Veneta style bag being sold at Zara. I am still not sure if that is the type of bag I want to be carrying to the beach this summer. I’m looking for something a little brighter.

At River Island I found the perfect pair of flats for the beach. They’re made of rubber and have got a flexible sole, which makes them super comfortable. They come in two colors, green and pink and they’re only KD6.500!

2007’s Expensive Handbags

Kuwait has always been full of expensive bags but even I am skeptical of seeing the following bags hanging off some fashionista’s arm here.

This Birkin bag is the most expensive selling for $148,000. Why the hefty price tag? It’s got diamonds!

The Bottega Veneta sells for about half of that at $78,000.

Chanel has also come up with a few pricey bags this season, one of them being the Biarritz, selling at $43,150.

I think Lana Marks Cleopatra bag is pretty. It’s got the requisite alligator skin and diamonds. But it’s the 18 carat white gold setting for the diamonds that raises this beauty’s tag to $100,000.

And of course, the hideous mess of a bag, Louis Vuitton’s Tribute Patchwork bag ($42,000). Louis Vuitton has been a target of the bag counterfeitering mafia for a while now but are they willing to copy this monstrosity?

If the price tag wasn’t an issue, which (if any) of the bags would you be proud to carry?
